Every other box got a look, but wide receiver did not. The 49ers will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
The Gill-Howard reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. On value alone, Lee III makes the weekend a net positive. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jake Slaughter in pick 58. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jack Endries at the 127th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Skyler Gill-Howard in slot 133, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Will Lee III in pick No. 138 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, Isaiah World went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
