The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Ja'Lynn Polk, the No. 75 name on the board, sitting there at the 126th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Shipley reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Bralen Trice at pick No. 58, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Calen Bullock in No. 88. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Will Shipley in the 91st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick 126 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Kamal Hadden at par in the 169th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
