The Packers bet big and early on Austin Booker, 21 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, King makes the weekend a net positive. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 41 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kalen King in slot 57. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Audric Estime enough to skip the value, taking him in the 88th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Fisher at the 92nd pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value said wait; Austin Booker in the 135th pick says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kenny Logan Jr. in slot 203 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached into another round for Maurice Smith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 44. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
