Green Bay Packers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Packers.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Matthew Jones at pick 245, a reach of 26 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 28
In slot 29 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 64
Kamren Kinchens at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 67
They paid a round early for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 58, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 96
Brenden Rice in the 88th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 103
They went early on Audric Estime in pick No. 91, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 144
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevor Keegan. It fills a real need, too.
R5.28 · Pick 164 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 187
Tanor Bortolini in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 169
Javion Cohen at No. 169 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.26 · Pick 201 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 216
A reach for Garret Greenfield in the 201st overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at Round 6, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Eric Watts · DL-EDGE · rank 230
Eric Watts at pick 219 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 271
Matthew Jones at the 245th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 258
Sam Hartman in slot 255 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
