They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Rondell Bothroyd, 40 picks early at the 246th pick.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Simpson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece at fair value. More want than need.
A reach on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 16; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Brandon Dorlus in slot 57; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Mahogany at the 88th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Audric Estime in the 91st pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Dominick Puni at par in pick 96, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tommy Eichenberg in the 125th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Jaylin Simpson slid further than he should have, and slot 162 is lovely value for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sam Hartman in the 197th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Jalen Green at pick 203, and it noticed. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
De'Corian Clark at Round 6, Pick 36 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Kenny Logan Jr. in No. 217, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
By-the-book stuff, Jase McClellan at pick No. 219 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Rondell Bothroyd at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Tatum Bethune at slot 249, value and slot in agreement. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
