The Sam Hartman pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 38 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in pick 41, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Javon Bullard in No. 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Audric Estime at Round 3, Pick 28 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Christian Jones in pick No. 125; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kamal Hadden at slot 168 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Javontae Jean-Baptiste at the 201st overall pick, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Logan Lee at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in Round 7, Pick 25, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Jalen Coker went about where he belonged in pick 255. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
