The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Isaiah Williams, the No. 181 name on the board, in pick 219. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Every board in the league had Lee lower, and that gap is the story. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Kamari Lassiter at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in slot 58, with Cooper Beebe worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Cedric Gray at Round 3, Pick 25, and the board did not agree. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A premium they did not need to pay, Audric Estime a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Blake Fisher, who had no business lasting to the 126th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Brandon Coleman at No. 169, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Curtis Jacobs in the 202nd pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Matt Lee at Round 7, Pick 25 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Frank Gore Jr. was still sitting there in No. 255, and they pounced on premier running back value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
