You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Brennan Armstrong in pick 243. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Beebe pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Ennis Rakestraw Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at slot 57, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cooper Beebe is a better player than the 88th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Fair-plus on McKinnley Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in No. 126, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cody Schrader at the 168th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Jones. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jalen Green at No. 216 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Brennan Armstrong at slot 243 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 31, where Daequan Hardy graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
