Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent pick No. 88 on Will Shipley, a name the board had a full 41 spots lower.
However the rest shakes out, Tampa at that price is a win they earned. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Kool-Aid McKinstry at Round 1, Pick 25 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Byron Murphy II. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing T.J. Tampa in the 57th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Will Shipley. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Marist Liufau in slot 91, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They let Mohamed Kamara come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; James Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Matthew Jones in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Maurice Smith at pick 217, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in the 219th pick: Sam Hartman for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tatum Bethune at the 246th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
