Green Bay Packers

The Packers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent pick No. 243 on Xavier Thomas, a name the board had a full 35 spots lower. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Sainristil to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 29
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 39
Tyler Guyton in No. 41 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Braswell. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 80
Mike Sainristil in pick No. 88 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 88
Nothing to complain about; Michael Hall Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 120
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malik Washington in the 126th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 163
Jaylen Wright at the 168th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 220
Omar Speights in the 203rd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Solomon Byrd · DE-EDGE · rank 221
They took Solomon Byrd at par in pick No. 216, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 278
Value said wait; Xavier Thomas in slot 243 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 260
A reach on Matthew Jones in Round 7, Pick 31; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
