The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 245 on Sam Hartman a full 38 spots early.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Tampa that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Darius Robinson in the 41st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let T.J. Tampa come to them and pounced at No. 58. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brenden Rice in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Audric Estime at pick 91, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tykee Smith this early at pick No. 125. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaylan Ford in slot 168 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Nathaniel Watson at par in pick No. 201, which is nothing to complain about. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Matthew Jones at Round 6, Pick 44 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Sam Hartman at No. 245, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalen Coker in pick 255 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
