Green Bay Packers

More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 42 spots for Will Shipley, and value like that does not grow back.

However the rest shakes out, Kinchens at that price is a win they earned. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
In No. 25 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 58
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 41, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
Circle this one: Kamren Kinchens at the 57th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
A reach for Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 25; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 133
Will Shipley at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 149
They reached into another round for Javion Cohen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 122
Sataoa Laumea slid further than he should have, and pick No. 135 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 216
Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 28 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 242
They left a pile of value on the table to take Matthew Jones this early at pick 217. It fills a real need, too.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 208
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omar Speights in the 219th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Brennan Armstrong · QB · rank 272
Brennan Armstrong at No. 246 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
