The Packers did not so much draft Sam Hartman as overpay for him, 40 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That Kinchens pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at the 58th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kamren Kinchens at Round 3, Pick 25 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in pick No. 91; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Isaiah Davis in slot 127 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylan Ford at pick 168 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A premium they did not need to pay, Josh Proctor a notch or two before his time. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Javontae Jean-Baptiste in slot 216 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in No. 243, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Logan Lee at the Round 7 slot. It fills a real need, too.
