The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Quinyon Mitchell slide 61 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If Jones pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for T'Vondre Sweat. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Brandon Dorlus in slot 57 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Audric Estime in the 88th pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Quinyon Mitchell was still sitting there in the 91st overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cole Bishop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cedric Gray in pick 135 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A big swing on Matthew Jones at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Sam Hartman in the 217th pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Joshua Cephus at pick 219, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Omar Speights at the 246th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
