The Packers spent real capital to be 55 picks early on Hayden Hatten, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Jones falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The Khalil Mack pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: T'Vondre Sweat in the 41st overall pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
D.J. James at pick 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tykee Smith in slot 92 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylen Wright this early at No. 125. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 135 that the board grades a round light. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Christian Jones graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Matthew Jones in No. 217; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Xavier Thomas at the 219th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Hayden Hatten in pick 246 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
