The Packers spent real capital to be 55 picks early on Hayden Hatten, and the board is going to hold them to it. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Carson. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Bralen Trice at the 41st pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Caelen Carson still on the board at No. 88. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in pick 91, with Christian Haynes worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 135 with a little surplus value in Will Shipley. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Green. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taulia Tagovailoa at pick No. 217 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Jase McClellan, who had no business lasting to No. 219. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Hayden Hatten in Round 7, Pick 26 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
