Green Bay Packers

The Packers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Sam Hartman, 28 picks early at the Round 7 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 20
Byron Murphy II at the 25th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 43
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at No. 41, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Max Melton · CB · rank 63
Max Melton at the 58th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 110
Cole Bishop in pick 88 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 102
A premium they did not need to pay, Audric Estime a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 137
Christian Jones at slot 125 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 174
Layden Robinson in the 168th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.26 · Pick 201 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 217
They paid a round early for Tanor Bortolini in pick No. 201, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 236
Trevin Wallace in pick 219 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Kenny Logan Jr. · S · rank 251
Kenny Logan Jr. at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 283
Sam Hartman at No. 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
