Green Bay Packers

The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Gray: B-.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Cedric Gray, the 153rd overall pick, roughly 27 picks past where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The cost of the McMahon reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 27
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 48
A reasonable price with a little left over, T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 52. It fills a real need, too.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 53
Nothing to complain about; Braden Fiske went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 99
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 102
Audric Estime in Round 3, Pick 25 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 84
Khyree Jackson at the 91st pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 147
A wild overpay on Tykee Smith in No. 127, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 126
They barely believed it either: Cedric Gray still on the board at pick 153. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 167
Kamal Hadden at the 168th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Isaiah Williams · WR · rank 185
Isaiah Williams in No. 204 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Jaylen Harrell · DE-EDGE · rank 221
Jaylen Harrell in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Dylan McMahon · C · rank 264
Dylan McMahon in slot 243 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · KT Leveston · OT · rank 238
Value with a capital V on KT Leveston in the 251st pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
