The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the No. 59 name on the board, sitting there at No. 127 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Hartman has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Ruke Orhorhoro at No. 44 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tyler Nubin at Round 2, Pick 26 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Max Melton all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 88 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Audric Estime at pick 91 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 127 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Roger Rosengarten at the 168th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Malik Mustapha at the 204th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keith Randolph Jr. at the 216th overall pick is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Curtis Jacobs at No. 221 is a fall that decides a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
You do not let a running back like Frank Gore Jr. reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at slot 251. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
