Green Bay Packers

A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B-.

Priorities are a choice, and the Packers made a strange one, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE in the 92nd pick with tight end and interior defensive lineman crying out for the pick instead. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They are betting Hopper proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That Guyton pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 19
In pick No. 25 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 45
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 41
Value with a capital V on Tyler Guyton in the 57th pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
Cooper Beebe slipping to slot 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 87
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in Round 3, Pick 29 leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman for later.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · James Williams · S · rank 129
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at No. 125, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 149
They paid a round early for Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 135, more than the board wanted. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 207
They took Sam Hartman at par in pick No. 203, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 209
They let Jase McClellan come to them and pounced at the 217th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 218
No edge and no loss on Blake Watson in slot 219; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Donell Harris Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 256
A reach for Donell Harris Jr. in pick No. 246; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
