The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Dwight McGlothern, the No. 161 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 202 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will need Fisher to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that.
Tyler Nubin in No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They read the board right and Cooper Beebe was the payoff at the 58th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Blake Fisher in pick 88, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Cedric Gray in pick No. 91 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Mohamed Kamara at the 126th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Justin Rogers at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Dwight McGlothern all the way to Round 6, Pick 27, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a running back like Kendall Milton reach pick No. 219 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Michael Barrett at slot 245 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Josh Proctor slid further than he should have, and pick 255 is lovely value for the safety. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
