The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Matthew Jones at pick 203 regardless, 39 picks early. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Robinson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 41 with a little surplus value in Kamren Kinchens. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 25 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on Marshawn Kneeland in slot 88, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Mahogany slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Will Shipley a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Javon Foster, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Matthew Jones in slot 203 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Taulia Tagovailoa at pick No. 217 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Maurice Smith at Round 6, Pick 44, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Zion Logue went about where he belonged in the 246th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
