You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Sam Hartman at No. 251, roughly 32 spots before his name belonged.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That Greenfield pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Vonn Bell pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached into another round for Braden Fiske, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
T'Vondre Sweat in the 41st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Javon Bullard in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach for Jaylen Wright in pick 65; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, DJ James went about where he belonged in slot 88. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 28 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Christian Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 127. A need, and now a little less of one.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 168th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylan Ford at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Josh Proctor at No. 216 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Garret Greenfield reach slot 243 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hartman in Round 7, Pick 31, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
