You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Kyle Hergel at the Round 7 slot, roughly 89 spots before his name belonged.
However the rest shakes out, Washington at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Nubin in slot 41, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Junior Colson in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in the 88th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 28. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Zak Zinter a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Davis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in slot 169; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Jaylan Ford at par in the 202nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Tahj Washington in No. 219 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Matt Lee at Round 6, Pick 45 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in pick 245, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kyle Hergel at pick No. 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
