Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for Hayden Hatten. He came off 55 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
That Davis pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Troy Fautanu in No. 41, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Michael Hall Jr. at pick No. 57 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Darius Robinson in slot 88 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Tykee Smith at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Javion Cohen at the 125th pick, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 135 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Isaiah Davis all the way to slot 203, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Sam Hartman slipping to pick No. 217 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay De'Corian Clark at the 219th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on Hayden Hatten in pick 246, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
