There is reaching, and then there is Jaylan Ford at the 169th pick. The Packers jumped the board by 36 and dared it to prove them wrong.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Watts at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 40
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Nubin. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 44
Chris Braswell slid further than he should have, and the 58th pick is lovely value for the edge rusher. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 96
Brenden Rice at the 88th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Nothing to complain about; Trey Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 144
Trevor Keegan in No. 126 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Hunter Nourzad · C · rank 159
They talked themselves into Hunter Nourzad at No. 134, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
Jaylan Ford at the 169th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Justin Rogers · DL · rank 193
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Justin Rogers in pick 202. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Erick All · TE · rank 202
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Erick All at slot 219. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.28 · Pick 248 · Eric Watts · DL-EDGE · rank 230
Taking Eric Watts in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 253
No edge and no loss on Kimani Vidal in pick No. 255; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Matt Lee · C · rank 275
Matt Lee at Round 7, Pick 36 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 246
Jalen Sundell at the 257th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
