Green Bay Packers

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Sam Hartman at pick No. 219, roughly 64 spots before his name belonged. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Cooper value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
In No. 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 73
Kamren Kinchens at slot 41 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 49
T.J. Tampa in Round 2, Pick 26 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 91
Dominick Puni in pick 88 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 42
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Edgerrin Cooper in the 91st overall pick, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 130
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 153
Value with a capital V on Malik Mustapha in pick 168, a genuine coup. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.26 · Pick 201 · Kendall Milton · RB · rank 190
Kendall Milton slipping to No. 201 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 283
Sam Hartman at pick No. 219 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Kenny Logan Jr. · S · rank 251
They did well to land Kenny Logan Jr. in the 255th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Jalen Coker · WR · rank 259
They took Jalen Coker at par in slot 256, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Zion Logue · DL · rank 290
They reached a country mile for Zion Logue at the 257th pick, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
