They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Hayden Hatten, 55 picks early at the 246th overall pick. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The McClellan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A big swing on T'Vondre Sweat at the 41st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Dorlus. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Audric Estime went about where he belonged in the 90th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Marist Liufau in pick 91, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Javon Foster in Round 4, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Javion Cohen in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Delmar Glaze at slot 135 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cam Hart at pick 140 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Sam Hartman at No. 203, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had cheaper options than Nathaniel Watson at Round 6, Pick 42, and it noticed. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board had Jase McClellan higher than pick No. 219, and the running back fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Matthew Jones at the 220th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Hayden Hatten, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Walter Rouse in the 247th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
