The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Matthew Jones went at Round 6, Pick 41, a good 44 picks before the board was ready. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Arnold steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dallas Turner in slot 25. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Terrion Arnold at pick No. 41 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach on Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 57; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaden Hicks. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in pick 91. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Will Shipley at Round 4, Pick 26 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Jefferson in the 168th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Christian Jones at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Matthew Jones in Round 6, Pick 41 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Taulia Tagovailoa in pick 251, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
