The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 32 spots for Sam Hartman, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Packers indulged a want in Kinchens while a need in edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots stayed open.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Braden Fiske at No. 41 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tyler Nubin at pick No. 58 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Kamren Kinchens while clear needs at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Cedric Gray at par in the 127th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Jefferson well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Michael Barrett at pick No. 216 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Dylan McMahon at No. 243 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Sam Hartman at the 251st pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
