Thirty-one other rooms let Will Shipley slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at the 203rd pick. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 41 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cooper Beebe in the 60th overall pick, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Javon Bullard at pick 88 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Junior Colson slid further than he should have, and slot 91 is lovely value for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kris Abrams-Draine in pick No. 125. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Jarrian Jones. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Darius Robinson slipping to the 133rd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sataoa Laumea at the 135th pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Will Shipley in pick 203 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
