You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Hayden Hatten at Round 7, Pick 26, roughly 67 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jacobs. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot.
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 41 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Dorlus. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tykee Smith in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Khyree Jackson at pick 91 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Wright in slot 125 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Javion Cohen in pick 135; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Roger Rosengarten in pick No. 203 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Curtis Jacobs at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They liked Taulia Tagovailoa enough to skip the value, taking him in the 219th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hayden Hatten at Round 7, Pick 26 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
