The Packers went off the board in a big way for Jeremy Moussa, 171 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That Proctor pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
JC Latham in the 25th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for T.J. Tampa in pick No. 41, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Mekhi Wingo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Audric Estime enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 88. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Blake Fisher at pick 94 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in Round 4, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jarrian Jones is a better player than pick 135 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylen Harrell in pick No. 177 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Josh Proctor at the 203rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Matthew Jones at the 209th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Kendall Milton in Round 6, Pick 42 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jeremy Moussa at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Hayden Hatten at No. 246 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
