You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Tanner Mordecai at No. 246, roughly 47 spots before his name belonged.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Turner pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on T.J. Tampa in pick 41; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in pick No. 88: Christian Mahogany for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Blake Fisher went about where he belonged in slot 92. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cole Bishop at the 125th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Jase McClellan in Round 6, Pick 28, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Thomas in the 217th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan McMahon in No. 219 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Tanner Mordecai, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
