There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Stefon Thompson, 41 picks ahead of schedule.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
On value alone, Green makes the weekend a net positive. The veteran additions, Stefon Diggs chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Tyler Nubin went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 60 with a little surplus value in Kingsley Suamataia. The roster fit checks out.
Josh Newton at the 88th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Zak Zinter in the 94th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. A minor itch, scratched.
They liked Nathan Thomas enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 32. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kingsley Eguakun in the Round 6 slot, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Stefon Thompson. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalen Green at pick 243. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Taulia Tagovailoa in the 251st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
