The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Julian Pearl, the No. 202 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
Reaching for Means left real value on the table behind him. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Guyton at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Braden Fiske in pick 58, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mekhi Wingo well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Christian Mahogany at slot 91 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
James Williams at No. 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 169th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid a round early for Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick No. 202, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Bub Means in pick 219 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Julian Pearl at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Somehow Nathaniel Watson was still sitting there in slot 255, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
