The Kendall Milton pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 190 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They banked enough surplus on Moore to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Ford pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Rome Odunze in Round 1, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Fautanu at the 40th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, J.J. McCarthy at pick 43 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kamren Kinchens in the 75th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Cam Hart at slot 82 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 108 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jaylan Ford adds a linebacker and leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman untouched.
They paid sticker price for Shemar Turner in slot 135, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A safety of that caliber at the 189th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
No drama and no debate, Anthony Belton went about where he belonged in pick 217. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Kendall Milton at pick No. 219, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Sam Hartman in the 232nd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
