Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick No. 174 on Isaiah Davis, a name most had 119 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Quinn Ewers is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The Muhammad III value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Amarius Mims at pick No. 40 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Christian Haynes in the 73rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Dominick Puni at slot 88 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 30, where TreVeyon Henderson graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick 109 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Roman Wilson slipping to the 119th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
James Williams at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ashton Gillotte at pick 135 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Cole Bishop at Round 5, Pick 10 when waiting would have done the job. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaiah Davis. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for DeWayne Carter in No. 197, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Moose Muhammad III in pick No. 217, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Joshua Gray in slot 219 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Matthew Jones in the 240th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
