Green Bay Packers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

The Packers went off the board in a big way for Isaiah Davis, 74 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Smith. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 11
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 34
Good price on Edgerrin Cooper in No. 39, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 44
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 84
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 75 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 93
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at the 93rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 104
A clean, defensible pick in pick 111 with a little surplus value in Cam Hart. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 128
Khyree Jackson in the 130th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Tory Horton · WR · rank 109
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 135 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 161
Taking Ainias Smith in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Jaylon Carlies · S · rank 224
No drama and no debate, Jaylon Carlies went about where he belonged in pick 217. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 293
They reached into another round for Isaiah Davis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 280
A wild overpay on Nathaniel Watson in pick No. 232, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
