The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Maurice Smith, taking him 22 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 9 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Bucky Irving at slot 88 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Jalen McMillan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
James Williams at pick No. 125 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Javon Foster at the 135th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Ethan Driskell at par in pick No. 203, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Miles Frazier at pick 217 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid a round early for Joshua Gray in Round 6, Pick 44, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Maurice Smith in slot 246, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
