The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Matthew Jones at the Round 7 slot regardless, 59 picks early.
The White pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value.
The board had Terrion Arnold higher than Round 2, Pick 7, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Troy Fautanu at pick 43 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Chris Braswell in No. 48 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Brian Thomas Jr. slipping to the 63rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jermaine Burton is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in the 82nd pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Nazir Stackhouse at the 94th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value with a capital V on Braelon Allen in pick 111, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Blake Fisher at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cole Bishop in Round 4, Pick 35 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They let Cody Schrader come to them and pounced at slot 189. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Bryce Foster in pick No. 215 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached a country mile for Sam Hartman at No. 217, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a wide receiver like Ricky White reach No. 219 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Matthew Jones well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
