You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Smith at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Adding A.J. Epenesa by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Rome Odunze at pick 19 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jermaine Burton in the 56th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on TreVeyon Henderson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Marist Liufau in No. 88, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Circle this one: Zak Zinter at Round 4, Pick 13 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Khyree Jackson in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tykee Smith at pick No. 135 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Connor Colby in pick 197 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Sam Hartman in the 200th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ainias Smith at No. 217 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
