The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Matt Lee went at No. 240, a good 71 picks before the board was ready. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Bo Nix gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
Troy Fautanu at pick No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 51 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Rod Moore in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in the 88th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cedric Gray in the 119th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Fair-plus on Khyree Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jase McClellan at slot 197 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cornelius Johnson at Round 6, Pick 42 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It fills a real need, too.
Anthony Belton at pick 219 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Matt Lee well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
