This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Troy Fautanu, the No. 42 name on the board, stolen at pick 82.
They will need Hartman to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Denzel Burke in the 43rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Jeremiah Trotter Jr. all the way to Round 3, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Troy Fautanu at pick 82 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Tate Ratledge went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
James Williams at slot 135 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Ricky White is a better player than No. 189 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Nelson Ceaser at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Isaiah Williams at par in No. 219, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Sam Hartman at Round 7, Pick 12, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
