The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Sam Hartman went at the Round 7 slot, a good 36 picks before the board was ready. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That Wilson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Jordan Morgan at par in slot 43, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach on Zak Zinter in the 73rd overall pick; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Amarius Mims at No. 82, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Javion Cohen in pick No. 109, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in pick No. 135: Roman Wilson for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in pick 187, where Cam Hart graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Cody Schrader at the 217th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joshua Gray at slot 219 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sam Hartman well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
