The war room fell hard for Javion Cohen, and it showed at the 141st pick: 30 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Barton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
Rome Odunze in pick No. 6 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
In the 27th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Bo Nix at Round 2, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Graham Barton at slot 47 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in the 66th overall pick, with Payton Wilson worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Blake Corum at pick 70 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Cole Bishop in slot 107, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Javion Cohen in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Erick All in pick No. 186; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
