Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals left with their quarterback, and a B to match.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Conner Weigman got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at the Round 6 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They have staked the next five years on Quinn Ewers, which is the only story that really matters here. The Monheim reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.8 · Pick 8 · Quinn Ewers · QB · rank 4
In slot 8 they get their quarterback of the future. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Ajani Cornelius · OT · rank 43
No edge and no loss on Ajani Cornelius in pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 64
Value with a capital V on Domani Jackson in the 72nd pick, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.8 · Pick 104 · Jonah Monheim · C · rank 143
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jonah Monheim. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.8 · Pick 136 · Tonka Hemingway · DT · rank 151
A conviction pick on Tonka Hemingway at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.8 · Pick 168 · Conner Weigman · QB · rank 72
Conner Weigman at the 168th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.8 · Pick 200 · Tim Smith · DL · rank 217
They paid a round early for Tim Smith in No. 200, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
