The Adam Randall selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 35 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Sonny Styles in pick 25 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Malachi Lawrence, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dani Dennis-Sutton at Round 2, Pick 28 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Zakee Wheatley in No. 89, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nice patience on Davison Igbinosun, who had no business lasting to the 129th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Zavion Thomas in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Adam Randall in slot 241 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
