Somebody in Round 7, Pick 4 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Tre Harris, the No. 26 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Matthew Golden in the 38th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Wyatt Milum at pick 69 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tate Ratledge in slot 77 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ashton Jeanty at Round 4, Pick 3 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jihaad Campbell at No. 143 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They robbed the room for Lander Barton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Steal is underselling it; Tre Harris at pick No. 220 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Chase Lundt all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
