The Patriots bet big and early on Chip Trayanum, 236 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
On value alone, Harris makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

In slot 4 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
Wyatt Milum in pick No. 38 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyler Booker at the 69th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malaki Starks at Round 3, Pick 17 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Danny Stutsman in No. 143 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Steal is underselling it; Quinshon Judkins at slot 191 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Chip Trayanum in No. 217 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tre Harris reach pick No. 220 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Micah Morris at Round 7, Pick 22 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
